Both UAE grades share the same core hardware. Each one runs a 2.7-liter four-cylinder, a six-speed automatic, part-time 4WD and a rear differential lock. Notably, the base EXR rides on 265/65R17 tires, roughly 30.6 inches tall.
I’ve owned five Jeeps, and I drive a Chevy Colorado ZR2 today. Coming from those rigs, the standout here is a rear locker on the base grade. Neither the Bronco Base nor the 4Runner SR5 has one as standard.

Size is the headline. The 101.6-inch wheelbase runs 10.6 inches shorter than a Land Cruiser 250. Toyota also quotes an 18-foot minimum turning radius. Even so, Toyota rates ground clearance, approach and departure angles on par with the 250.
The UAE sheet also quotes 10.1 km/L, about 23.8 mpg. However, the sheet does not name its test cycle, so the figure is not an EPA rating. Toyota’s official Japan WLTC figure works out to about 20.5 mpg.
EXR vs. GXR: What the Extra $4,100 Buys
The GXR costs AED 15,000 more, about $4,100. Mechanically, nothing changes, since both grades share the engine, gearbox and 4WD system. Instead, the money goes to wheels, cabin trim and driver aids.
Specifically, the GXR adds 18-inch black wheels, LED fog lamps, synthetic leather seats and a power driver’s seat. It also swaps the rear camera for a Panoramic View Monitor. On top of this, it gains radar cruise control, blind spot monitoring and Toyota Safety Sense 3.
For trail use, the EXR makes more sense to me. Its 65-series tires carry about 6.8 inches of sidewall versus 6.3 inches on the GXR. More sidewall gives you more cushion when you air down.
Why There Is No Land Cruiser FJ USA Launch
Toyota has announced no US sales for the FJ as of late September 2026. It gives no detailed public reason, but two factors stand out. The FJ rides on a ladder frame from Toyota’s IMV family, the same base as the global Hilux pickup. Toyota builds it at its Ban Pho Plant in Thailand, according to the Toyota Japan launch release.
Trade rules add another hurdle. A Thailand-built SUV pays the full 25 percent Section 232 import duty, per our truck tariffs in 2027 breakdown. By contrast, the Japan-built 4Runner pays 15 percent.
Here is a rough illustration. Strip out the 5 percent UAE VAT, and the base FJ lists at about $36,300. Put a 25 percent duty on the full sticker, and it climbs to about $45,350. This skips shipping, certification and dealer margin. On this rough math, a Land Cruiser FJ USA version lands above a $42,270 4Runner SR5.
