Overview

The Nissan SEMA concepts give Frontier, Pathfinder and Armada owners a parts list for bigger tires, more lift and better lighting. Nissan revealed the three builds on Nov. 2, ahead of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, in a release on its U.S. newsroom. None is for sale, but each one comes with a build sheet listing parts, tire sizes and suspension changes.

Three jobs split the lineup. The RONIN is a high-performance off-road truck with twin turbos, while the XE-V6 is a retro family hauler on a 4-inch lift. In contrast, the Jungle Patrol is an open-roof safari SUV on 37-inch tires.

Nissan also looked ahead. Its aftersales vice president, Kim Less, mentioned an all-new Xterra and said the concepts help inform the direction for accessorizing future Nissan trucks and SUVs. So the parts lists deserve a close read.

Nissan SEMA Concepts at a Glance

Build Tires and wheels Suspension Power
RONIN (Frontier) 35×12.50R17 on 17×9-inch beadlocks 4.0-inch lift, 12 inches wider, 14.0 inches of travel Twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6, no output given
XE-V6 (Pathfinder) 285/75R18 on 18×9-inch wheels 4-inch lift kit with cradle spacer Standard Rock Creek V6 rating, 295 hp and 270 lb-ft
Jungle Patrol (Armada) 37×12.50R18 on 18-inch beadlocks Widened track, long-travel racing suspension Standard 3.5-liter V6 rating, 425 hp and 516 lb-ft

After airing down on the trail, tires between 35 and 37 inches take a while to refill. The ARB CKMP12, VIAIR 400P and ALL-TOP kit all run on 12V power and suit different budgets. Check each maker’s tire size limit first, because VIAIR lists the 400P for tires up to 35 inches.

Frontier RONIN: Twin Turbos on 35-Inch Tires

The RONIN is the performance build of the trio. Nissan fitted a twin-turbocharged version of the Frontier’s 3.8-liter V6. Also, the build sheet credits a rear-mounted R35 GT-R NISMO turbo system. However, no horsepower figure came with the release, so treat any number elsewhere as a guess.

Fitting 35-inch tires, however, took major work. Titan suspension parts widen the track by 12 inches. In addition, the build sheet lists 4.0 inches of lift with 14.0 inches of travel. A Bilstein Black Hawk suspension package handles the motion. The tires are 35×12.50R17 Yokohama Geolandar X-AT on 17×9-inch NISMO Ascend beadlock wheels.

Bolt-on parts form the second layer. NISMO Off Road supplies the rock sliders, roof rack, spare tire carrier, 6-inch driving lights and 4-inch A-pillar lights. Also, a big-brake kit adds 6-piston front calipers. Nissan has not said which NISMO items dealers will sell, but they look like the first parts to shop. The wider track and the rear axle swap are bigger jobs than any of these bolt-ons.

Pathfinder XE-V6: A Retro Build on a Rock Creek

This build marks the Pathfinder’s 40th anniversary. Its retro badge recalls the first-generation WD21 and its 3.0-liter V6. Likewise, the red body with black, charcoal and silver stripes nods to 1980s Patrol SUVs. Notably, the original won 4×4 of the Year and Four Wheeler of the Year awards in 1987, according to Nissan. Our report on the 2027 Pathfinder Special Edition covers a production trim with the same anniversary theme.

Of the three, the XE-V6 is the most attainable. It starts with a Pathfinder Rock Creek and its stock 295-horsepower V6. Nissan added a 4-inch lift kit with a cradle spacer and a prototype NISMO cat-back exhaust. Additionally, 285/75R18 Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 tires sit on 18×9-inch NISMO wheels. Those tires, for example, stand roughly 35 inches tall.

The gear list reads like a weekend packing list. For example, it includes a WARN M800S winch, a RotoPax 1.75-gallon canister and a 45-quart ice box. Also, a rooftop storage case and rack-mounted MOLLE panels come with it. A rear swing-out carrier holds the spare. Meanwhile, skid plates and rock rails protect the underside, and six 6-inch lights sit on the bumper and roof rack.

Armada Jungle Patrol: Open Roof on 37-Inch Tires

The Armada Jungle Patrol pays homage to Nissan’s Patrol SUVs, known for desert and safari durability. Nissan gave it an open roof, a tubular roll cage and inward-facing bench seats with harnesses. The release calls the result an expedition-style transformation.

Underneath, it rides on 37×12.50R18 Yokohama Geolandar G003 M/T tires and 18-inch NISMO AXIS beadlock wheels. A widened track and long-travel racing suspension from CJD handle the terrain, with custom adjustable coilovers featuring remote reservoirs and bypass. Finally, tubular steel bumpers, fender flares, NISMO Off Road rock sliders and 6-inch roof lights complete the look. The build sheet lists a 3.5-liter V6 with a standard rating of 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft, plus a prototype NISMO cat-back exhaust.

Few owners will want an open-roof Armada. However, the tire and suspension pairing still teaches something, because Nissan matched the 37s with a wider track and fender flares. If you plan 37s, therefore, budget for fender coverage and suspension, not only tires.

Nissan SEMA Concepts vs. Production Off-Road Trims

Nissan’s Q&A points to production trims such as Frontier PRO-4X, Armada PRO-4X and Pathfinder Rock Creek. The Armada PRO-4X brings all-terrain tires, skid plates, an electronic locking rear differential and Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension. Likewise, the Frontier PRO-4X adds Bilstein suspension parts and all-terrain tires on black 17-inch wheels. Similarly, the Pathfinder Rock Creek uses an off-road-tuned suspension, a lifted ride height and all-terrain tires.

The gap to the concepts is large. The RONIN adds a twin-turbo engine and 12 inches of track, while the production trims stick to factory-fit equipment such as tuned suspension and all-terrain tires. Compared to the production trim, the XE-V6 starts as a Rock Creek and adds a 4-inch lift kit and 285/75R18 tires. The production trim stops at a lifted ride height and all-terrain tires. Nissan also warns modifications might affect performance, safety, emissions, durability and on-road certification, and damage from them might not be covered under warranty.

History offers one hint. Nissan says today’s Rock Creek lineup, including the Pathfinder, Rogue and Kicks, took inspiration from earlier SEMA concepts. The XE-V6 ideas might reach a later production trim, although Nissan made no promise.

Taller tires and added gear mean more weight to recover. The MAXTRAX MKII boards add grip under a stuck tire, while the Rhino USA kinetic rope and soft shackles set up a stretch pull from a second vehicle. Match every part to your vehicle weight and its rated recovery points.

What This Means for You

First, start with tires. The RONIN pairs 35s with 4.0 inches of lift and a track widened by 12 inches. It is a high-performance build, so treat it as the extreme case, not a minimum. The XE-V6 reaches roughly 35 inches with a 4-inch lift kit and is the closer model for most owners. Our guides to factory versus aftermarket 35s and to regearing after 35s cover cost, warranty and gear ratios before you buy.

Next, pick your base. A Pathfinder Rock Creek owner has the closest match to the XE-V6, with the same 295-horsepower V6. Frontier PRO-4X and Armada PRO-4X owners get less direct guidance, because many concept parts are custom or prototype pieces.

Then ask about parts. Nissan says some accessory parts from the builds might be sold through its dealerships, so call your dealer’s parts counter and ask which NISMO Off Road items are orderable. Prototype parts, such as the NISMO wheels, might never reach a parts counter.

For me, the Pathfinder is the most useful build to study. It starts from a trim you buy today, and the parts group neatly into lift, tires, protection, then lights and recovery gear.

Final Thoughts

None of the Nissan SEMA concepts will sit on a dealer lot, but each one hands owners something to use. Specifically, you get exact tire sizes, lift heights and parts lists, build by build. If you look at your own Frontier, Pathfinder or Armada and wonder what comes next, this is a good place to start.

Keep your feet on the ground, though. Nissan gave no price, no on-sale date and no RONIN horsepower, and several parts are prototypes. If you want to copy a build, copy the Pathfinder’s list one group at a time, and settle your warranty questions before you spend a dollar.

For another SEMA reference point, the Toyota Woodland concepts take a family-rig approach. As for Nissan, I hope the booth team shares which parts dealers will stock. Whichever build you like best, enjoy the planning. It is part of the fun.
