Overview
The Transit Trail settlement pays $6,000 to each original owner or lessee of a 2023 or 2024 Ford Transit Trail van bought or leased new before June 1, 2024. You must file a claim by January 15, 2027, because the money does not arrive on its own. Ford denies any wrongdoing, although the court has not yet granted final approval.
The suit centers on the tire clearance problem Ford recalled in 2024. Owners who bought the van new as the base for a camper van build are covered under the same rules.
Decide by January 13, 2027, since the opt out and objection window closes two days before the claim deadline.
Tire care applies whether or not you file. Keep your tires inflated to spec and check tread depth often. Our tire pressure guide covers the basics, and these tools handle both jobs.

The Lawsuit and the Tire Rub Recall
Ford’s March 2024 recall and the lawsuit target the same problem, tires rubbing the wheel arch liners. The case is Provo et al. v. Ford Motor Company, No. 1:25-cv-00569, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. Plaintiffs say the Transit Trail package leaves too little room for its 30.5-inch tires inside the wheel wells. They allege the tires might strike the wheel arch liners while turning, braking or carrying a heavy load. ClassAction.org reports the package cost $12,500.

Ford recalled the vans in March 2024 under NHTSA campaign 24V-226. Specifically, the recall covers 1,902 vans from the 2023 and 2024 model years. According to the NHTSA recall report, the front tires might contact the front wheel arch liner and body flange under certain braking, steering and loading conditions. Repeated contact might lead to rapid air loss and tread-belt separation, which raise the risk of a loss of vehicle control and a crash. However, Ford reported no known accidents or injuries.
Ford’s fix swaps the Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT tires (LT245/75R16E) for 235/65R16C tires, about 28 inches tall. GearJunkie reported Ford expected roughly 500 of the 1,900 vans to need the swap. Who Qualifies for the Transit Trail Settlement
You qualify as the original owner or lessee when your van is a 2023 or 2024 Transit Trail bought or leased new before June 1, 2024, for personal, family or household use. Prior compensation from Ford for the van, including a settlement payment or repurchase, disqualifies you.
Upfitter purchases also count when you meet the personal, family or household use rule. If an outfitter or upfitter bought the van new for resale or conversion and you acquired it from them, you still qualify as the first owner. Each van pays once, and joint buyers count as one owner.

Used buyers do not qualify. ClassAction.org reports the same for anyone who bought from a private owner. First owners who sold the van after buying it new might still qualify.
Transit Trail Settlement Key Facts and Deadlines

What the Transit Trail Settlement Means for You
Compared to the $12,500 reported price of the Transit Trail package, the $6,000 payment equals 48%, and you keep the van. However, you must prove you qualify before you collect.
Gather these items before you open the claim form:
- Your van’s VIN.
- A copy of the purchase or lease agreement showing your name, the VIN and the date.
- A completed IRS Form W-9.
- The unique ID and PIN printed on your settlement notice.
You file online with the ID and PIN, or you mail a printed claim form to the settlement administrator. The official settlement website hosts both options.
The recall repair swaps the tires, while the settlement pays cash. According to the settlement FAQ, you keep any recall remedy Ford already provided at no charge. The FAQ lists a repurchase, a prior settlement payment, a signed release or a judgment as reasons to exclude you. If Ford reimbursed you for tire costs, ask the administrator whether the reimbursement counts as prior compensation.
You have four choices. They differ in payment and in your right to sue Ford.
| Your choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| File a claim | You receive the $6,000 payment after final approval and you stay bound by the settlement. |
| Object | You stay in the settlement and tell the court what you dislike about its terms. You cannot object and opt out at the same time. |
| Opt out | You get no payment and keep your right to sue Ford over the released claims. |
| Do nothing | You get no payment and give up your legal rights. |

Final Thoughts
File a claim by January 15, 2027 if you bought your Transit Trail new before June 1, 2024. The payment settles claims over a tire clearance problem Ford already recalled, and the claim form is the only way to collect it.
Opt out only if you plan to sue Ford yourself. Object only if you want the court to hear a specific problem with the terms. Also, the opt out and objection deadlines both fall on January 13, 2027. Doing nothing forfeits both the payment and your legal rights.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who qualifies to file a Transit Trail settlement claim?
You qualify as the original owner or lessee of a 2023 or 2024 Ford Transit Trail bought or leased new before June 1, 2024, for personal, family or household use. Prior compensation from Ford for the van disqualifies you. Each van has one qualifying owner or lessee, and joint buyers count as one.
Does the Transit Trail settlement cover a used van?
No. ClassAction.org reports people who bought a Transit Trail used or from a private owner fall outside the class. First owners who sold their van after buying it new before June 1, 2024, might still qualify.
How much does the Transit Trail settlement pay?
The settlement pays $6,000 per eligible van, issued by check. Specifically, payments go out only after the court grants final approval and any appeals end. The hearing is set for March 16, 2027.
What if I already had the tire rub recall repair?
The settlement bars owners who already received compensation from Ford, including a settlement payment or repurchase. Also, the settlement FAQ says you keep any recall remedy Ford already provided at no charge. If Ford reimbursed you for tire costs or you are unsure, ask the settlement administrator before you file.
Does a business buyer qualify?
No. The settlement site excludes purchasers who bought Class Vehicles for business, commercial or other non-personal uses. The class covers vans bought or leased for personal, family or household use. If you are unsure how your purchase counts, ask the settlement administrator.
