What Changes for Overland Expo Mountain West 2027
Overland Expo Mountain West 2027 moves to Riverdale Regional Park in Brighton, Colorado, on August 20 to 22, 2027. The event leaves The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, dropping south toward the Denver metro. Loveland finished a major upgrade three weeks before the 2026 show. Overland Expo praised the new grounds in writing, then announced the departure in the same article.
How the News Was Announced
The announcement arrived in an odd place. Instead of a press release, Overland Expo put the news in the last line of its 2026 Mountain West recap, published August 24, 2026. No reason for the move appears anywhere. Neither Overland Expo nor parent company Emerald X has explained the decision publicly. No outlet had covered the story at the time of writing.
Parts of the organization missed the memo. While the main event page and the site navigation both list Brighton, the Mountain West FAQ still shows the 2026 dates in Loveland. Similarly, the attendee destination guide carries the title “Guide to Loveland.” Those pages will presumably catch up, though the split shows how quietly this landed.
For anyone planning a year ahead, three questions matter. First, how does the new site compare to the old one? Second, how much does the travel math change? Finally, does the rest of the calendar shift? On the last point, no. Of the four events with 2027 dates posted, only Mountain West shows a new host city, while SoCal returns to Costa Mesa, West returns to Flagstaff, and the Pacific Northwest show returns to Redmond.
Venue Comparison at a Glance
| Detail | The Ranch, Loveland (through 2026) | Riverdale, Brighton (2027) |
|---|---|---|
| County | Larimer | Adams |
| Primary role | Larimer County fairgrounds and event campus | Adams County Fairgrounds |
| Annual event load | More than 2,000 events per year | County fair plus year-round rentals |
| Recent construction | $110 million-plus master plan, still ongoing | Redevelopment targeted for the 2026 county fair |
| Drive from the Denver airport | About 52 miles, roughly an hour | About 18 miles, roughly 25 minutes |
| Drive to Rocky Mountain National Park | About 45 minutes, per Overland Expo | Roughly half an hour farther out |
| Terrain underfoot | New turf lawn plus paved and gravel areas | Gravel, pavement, grass and dirt, some uneven |
Both sites are county fairgrounds. Therefore the bones are similar: big arenas, livestock barns and open acreage. However, the two properties sit at opposite ends of their construction cycles. Larimer County is midway through a long build-out. Adams County, in contrast, aimed its own rebuild at this summer’s fair.

Loveland Opened a $110 Million Upgrade Three Weeks Before the Show Left
Larimer County is spending more than $110 million on a phased rebuild of the Loveland complex. Voters funded it through a 0.15% sales and use tax, extended through 2039. Commissioners then adopted the amended master plan on January 26, 2026. The first finished piece of phase two was a new 21-acre turf Event Lawn.
The New Event Lawn Opened Three Weeks Before the Show
Crews cut the ribbon on July 31, 2026, during opening night of the Larimer County Fair. Three weeks later, Overland Expo rolled in. Meanwhile, the new lawn added shaded pavilions, upgraded sound and lighting, more vendor space, and concrete ADA sidewalks running out to the vendor pads.
From experience: I was on the grounds from setup Thursday through Saturday. Where I remembered dusty dirt from past years, there was fresh green grass everywhere. The venue had a huge facelift. Then a few vendors told me the show was moving closer to the Denver airport. I am not complaining, since I fly into Denver for this show every year and it means less driving.
Overland Expo Praised the Grounds in the Same Article
Overland Expo agrees about the improvement, on the record. Its recap describes attendees getting “their first chance to experience the newly updated grounds.” The same passage credits renovations for adding green space, improving walkability, and creating “a more open and functional footprint for exhibitor displays, demonstrations, camping, and community spaces.” The praise sits a few hundred words above the line announcing the departure. In other words, one article both celebrates the venue and leaves it behind.
Larimer County Is Still Building
The Ranch has more work queued after the Event Lawn. Next comes a 6,000-capacity outdoor amphitheater, with construction expected to start in late 2026. An exposition center and a hotel also sit on the master plan. Whatever drove the decision, the outgoing venue is climbing, not declining. Our 2026 Mountain West preview covers what the Loveland show looked like heading in.
Inside Riverdale Regional Park, the New Home
The Brighton site sits at 9755 Henderson Road, one mile west of U.S. 85 on 124th Avenue, inside Adams County. Locals know it as the Adams County Fairgrounds. Besides the fair, it hosts conventions, expos, livestock shows and car shows. The South Platte River Trail also connects to the site. On-site camping is the open question, since Overland Expo has published nothing yet about how it will lay out camping at Brighton.
Indoor Buildings on the Brighton Site
Indoor inventory is substantial. Specifically, the complex includes the Al Lesser Building, an Exhibit Hall, the Rendezvous Rooms, the Waymire Dome and the United Power Grandstand Arena. For a show packing 282 classes and demos into three days, indoor rooms matter more than raw acreage. Adams County publishes no acreage figure, however, so a direct size comparison against Loveland’s 315 acres is not possible.
Brighton Aimed Its Own Rebuild at This Summer
The county targeted a full redevelopment for completion by the 2026 fair. Mortenson, the general contractor, calls it the first significant upgrade to the site since the 1970s. Crews relocated and enlarged the Midway, then added a circular two-lane drive with a dedicated bus lane. Contractors also built new barns and a covered open-air arena with a dirt floor. In addition, crews rebuilt the utilities from the ground up, including fiber for high-speed internet. Stream restoration on Brantner Gulch targeted the site’s floodplain and drainage problems.
Parking and Ground Conditions to Plan For
One caution applies to anyone hauling a trailer or planning to camp. Adams County describes the terrain as a mixture of gravel, pavement, grass and dirt, with uneven areas across the site. During the county fair, on-site parking runs $30 per vehicle and gets called extremely limited, with free shuttles from four off-site lots. Overland Expo will set its own parking and camping plan, although surface conditions are worth knowing first. Our guide to setting up your campsite covers spacing for packed fairground camping.
The Denver Airport Drive Gets About 35 Miles Shorter
For fly-in attendees, this is the headline. Routing to both venues from Denver International Airport over current road data produces a clear gap. Brighton comes in at roughly 18 miles and about 25 minutes of free-flow driving. Loveland, in contrast, sits at roughly 52 miles and about an hour. Call it 35 miles and half an hour saved on arrival day, then the same again heading home.
Those figures do not model traffic, so treat them as approximate. Still, the direction is not in dispute. Anyone who has landed at Denver International Airport at 4pm and driven north up I-25 knows the bad-day version. It stretches well past 90 minutes.
The tradeoff runs the other way for anyone who paired the show with mountain time. Overland Expo itself sold Loveland partly on mountain access, describing the town as 45 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. Brighton, however, sits out on the plains northeast of Denver. As a result, it adds roughly half an hour to the front of any high-country trip.
Who Wins and Who Loses at Overland Expo Mountain West 2027
Start with geography. Loveland rewarded the drive-in crowd from Wyoming, Nebraska and northern Colorado, along with anyone building a mountain trip around the show. Brighton instead rewards fly-in attendees and Front Range locals. Colorado residents already made up 69% of 2026 attendance, so the move serves the largest existing bloc.
Character is the second split. Loveland offers 315 acres, a fresh 21-acre lawn, and mountains on the western horizon. Riverdale, meanwhile, is a working county fairgrounds on the plains, with strong indoor inventory and a redevelopment aimed at this summer’s fair. Neither venue is objectively better here, and since both host county fairs, both handle heavy traffic.
Uncertainty costs everyone. By 2026, people had learned Loveland’s parking patterns, camping areas and vendor rows. Brighton resets all of it, including for exhibitors. Therefore, expect year one at a new venue to run rougher than year five at an old one. Ingress, camping assignments and shuttle logistics are the usual pain points. In contrast, our Expo West 2026 recap covers how a settled venue feels.

Final Verdict on the Venue Change
If you fly into Denver for this show, the move is a straightforward win. Thirty-five fewer miles each way adds up to roughly an hour of driving saved round trip. Moreover, you skip a long interstate haul at the start of the trip. Brighton also sits nearer metro Denver hotels.
If you drive in from the north, or build a Rocky Mountain trip around the weekend, the move costs you. Adding half an hour to every canyon approach is a real penalty for anyone whose reason for flying to Colorado was the mountains rather than the show floor. Therefore those attendees have a legitimate complaint, and Overland Expo has given them nothing to weigh it against.
The missing explanation remains the strangest part. A show drawing 18,500 people and 335 exhibitors changed metro areas. Still, the only public word is one sentence at the bottom of a recap. Meanwhile, Larimer County is midway through a nine-figure investment in the property it lost, and its newest asset had been open three weeks when the show arrived. Contract terms, dates, rates and capacity all shape decisions like this. Nobody has stated which applied here.
My recommendation for 2027 is to hold plans loosely for now. Specifically, wait until Overland Expo publishes a real venue page with parking, camping and shuttle details for Brighton. Also watch the FAQ and destination guide pages, since both still describe Loveland. If mountain access matters more to you than the show itself, look hard at Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, which keeps both its venue and its high-country surroundings.
