Overview

The Bronco V6 engine reaches more of the 2027 lineup, according to Ford’s October 12 announcement. Its 3.0L EcoBoost twin turbo V6 makes 380 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. The engine is standard on the new Bronco Filson and optional on the Outer Banks, Badlands and Heritage trims.

However, Ford has not said whether the new engine replaces the 2.7L V6. The V6 option has no price or fuel economy yet, and only the Filson has an announced arrival: early 2027. Therefore, treat this as an engine announcement rather than a buying guide until the configurator opens.

This article sorts out which trims get the engine, how its output compares with the 2.7L and the Raptor, and which questions to settle before you order. Notably, every figure here comes from Ford or a named outlet, because some dealer pages list conflicting horsepower.

Whichever engine you order, trail days need the same basic kit. If you air down for sand or rock, these three tools suit any 4WD vehicle.

Which 2027 Trims Get the Bronco V6 Engine

Ford lists two tiers for the new engine. The Filson gets the V6 as standard equipment. Outer Banks, Badlands and Heritage trims offer it as an option instead.

Autoblog expects the lower trims to keep the 2.3L four-cylinder, although Ford’s announcement does not list their engines. The RTR also stays on the 2.3L, as our 2027 Bronco RTR price range report explains.

Trim 3.0L V6 status Output
Filson Standard 380 hp, 440 lb-ft
Bronco Outer Banks Optional 380 hp, 440 lb-ft
Badlands Optional 380 hp, 440 lb-ft
Heritage Optional 380 hp, 440 lb-ft
Bronco Raptor Standard, own tune 418 hp, 440 lb-ft
Lower trims Not listed by Ford 2.3L expected

What Else Changed for 2027

Beyond the engine, Ford reworked the cabin. Bronco Outer Banks models with the Lux Package get premium vinyl seats in place of the previously standard leather. Badlands adds an upgraded Marine Grade Vinyl seat option, including the first power-adjustable one on the Badlands.

Ford also names the Filson and RTR as the two new series for 2027. Our more new Bronco models coming report previewed the Filson in July.

Bronco V6 Engine vs. the 2.7L and Raptor Tunes

Back to the engine, the new 3.0L adds 50 hp and 25 lb-ft over the 2.7L EcoBoost V6. Autoblog lists the 2.7L at 330 hp and 415 lb-ft. Ford’s new figures are 380 hp and 440 lb-ft.

The Raptor still leads on horsepower at 418, as our Bronco Raptor’s 3.0L V6 report shows. Both tunes make 440 lb-ft, so horsepower is the only output gap between them. Ford says the new engine shares its architecture with the Raptor’s, yet it lists a lower output.

A similar swap is underway in the F-150, where Ford Authority lists the 3.0L at 325 hp and 400 lb-ft. On paper, the Bronco tune is stronger than the truck’s. Our 2027 F-150 3.0L EcoBoost swap report covers the details.

The 2.7L question remains open. Ford Authority says it is unclear whether the 3.0L replaces the 2.7L or joins it. Meanwhile, some owners on Bronco forums worry about losing the 2.7L, which they call a strong engine. Some also say gearing matters as much as the engine on 35-inch tires.

What Ford Has Not Announced Yet

Ford has not published a price for the V6 upgrade. For context, Autoblog notes the 2.7L costs $3,295 extra on the 2026 Outer Banks. Ford’s Filson target is a starting price in the mid-$70,000s, which is not final.

Also missing are a lineup on-sale date, a configurator, fuel economy, tow ratings and word on whether the 2.7L stays. Ford says the Filson arrives in early 2027, while Autoblog expects 2027 Bronco sales to start in the fourth quarter. Order banks are reported to open Oct 13, which is not an on-sale date. Our Bronco Filson order banks open Oct 13 report notes dealers set their own deposit rules.

What This Means for You

If you own a 2.3L or 2.7L Bronco today, nothing changes. The new engine is an option for the 2027 model year, not a recall or a retrofit. Your truck keeps the output it has now.

If you plan to order a Filson, the V6 comes standard, so the open question is the final price. For everyone else, the V6 is now a line item to price. I have rented a Bronco Badlands several times from Budget at John Wayne Airport for Big Bear camping trips, so the Badlands is the trim I watch most closely. For me, it is where the optional V6 makes the most sense, because the trim exists for the trail.

A loaded camp trip also calls for recovery gear on remote roads. These items fit any 4WD vehicle, so you buy them once and keep them through a model change.

Before you order, get four answers from your dealer. First, ask what the V6 costs on your trim. Next, find out whether it requires a package such as Sasquatch. Then request the EPA rating and the tow rating. Finally, confirm whether the 2.7L stays on the list.

My advice: ask for the order guide before you sign anything. The Bronco V6 engine has strong numbers, yet price and fuel economy decide whether it beats the 2.3L for your use.

Final Thoughts

Buyers who tow, camp loaded or run big tires at elevation are the likeliest to want the Bronco V6 engine. Specifically, Outer Banks and Badlands buyers gain a new choice, because they no longer need a Raptor to get the 3.0L V6. I am glad Ford spread the engine across several trims, Badlands included, instead of reserving it for one trim.

The trade-offs are real, though. Price, fuel economy and the fate of the 2.7L are all unknown today. Some Bronco owners also say the 2.3L is plenty for daily driving and costs less, so the V6 is not a default choice.

The Raptor remains the choice for the most power at 418 hp, while the 2.3L still costs less. Our Bronco vs 4Runner vs Wrangler comparison shows how the engine lineup compares with rivals.

I would wait for the order guide and the price before deciding. Ford’s order guide will settle most of these questions.
