This past weekend I headed up to Running Springs near Big Bear, California to set up and field test the Davis Tent 10x10 Go Tent for the very first time.

In this video, I walk through the full setup process, show the key features of the Go Tent, and share my initial pros and cons after spending real time with it in cold mountain conditions.

See more on Davis Go Series Tents: https://www.davistent.com/go-tent/

This trip also gave me a chance to continue testing several pieces of gear in a real-world environment, including:

    - GoFluxx LED camp lights: https://gofluxx.com/
    - Aeronaut Hoverquilt: https://aeronautoutdoor.com/
    - TRP4x4 Mammoth 40L fridge (only 15 lbs despite the name!): https://trp4x4.com/

The Mammoth fridge in particular really surprised me — it’s incredibly lightweight for its size, making it a great option for overlanding and mobile camp setups.

This isn’t a studio review — it’s a first-time setup and honest field test in real conditions, exactly how I evaluate gear before making any long-term recommendations.

Davis Tent 10x10 Go Tent First Setup & Field Test | GoFluxx Lights in Action

4wdTALK January 26, 2026 8:09 pm

In this video, Rick installs a set of TRUKD V2 12.5” Accessory Panels on our 2025 Toyota Tundra, adding even more functionality to the TRUKD bed rack already on the truck.

These full-length molle-style panels span from crossbar to crossbar and instantly open up new storage and mounting options for overlanders, campers, and anyone building a serious adventure rig. The install is fast, clean, and delivers immediate real-world benefits.

We walk through the installation process, fitment on the Tundra, and show how these panels can be used to mount gear like:

    - Rotopax fuel and water containers
    - Quickfist clamps
    - Traction boards
    - Hi-Lift jacks
    And more

The TRUKD V2 panels are built from 3/16” powder-coated aluminum, designed to handle real trail use without rust or flex. They adjust in 2.5-inch increments for flexible crossbar positioning and bolt directly onto TRUKD 12-inch brackets by replacing the stock faceplates.

Panel Specs:
• Material: 3/16” Aluminum
• Length options: 52” or 64”
• Finish: Textured Black Powder Coat
• Compatible with 12”, 18”, or 24” TRUKD bed rack heights
• Works with 1/4-20 bolts, 1/2” bolts, and wide washer mounts

If you’re building a 2025 Toyota Tundra for overlanding or serious off-road use, rock sliders are one of the most important upgrades you can make — and in this video, we’re getting a step-by-step install done by Rick using Rockslide Engineering rock sliders.

Rock sliders aren’t just cosmetic. They protect some of the most vulnerable parts of your truck, help you clear obstacles on the trail, and add real-world functionality for both off-road travel and daily use. In this install video, I walk through why rock sliders matter, what makes a good set worth investing in, and how they transform the capability and durability of a modern overland build.

Whether you’re running technical trails, exploring remote backcountry routes, or simply want to protect your investment, rock sliders are one of those upgrades most experienced off-roaders wish they had done sooner.

In this video, you’ll see:
    - Rockslide Engineering rock sliders installed on a 2025 Toyota Tundra
    - See step-by-step installation
    - The real benefits of rock sliders for overlanding and off-road driving
    - Why sliders protect your truck and improve trail confidence

If you’re planning an off-road build, this is one upgrade that delivers both protection and performance.

Rockslide Engineering Rock Sliders Install on a 2025 Toyota Tundra

4wdTALK January 17, 2026 7:49 pm

I just got back from Big Bear, where I spent time putting a 16’ prototype Elk Mountain Tent bell tent through a real-world winter test.

Last month, I reviewed Elk Mountain’s 20’ bell tent. It scored high with me, but it wasn’t perfect. Instead of ignoring the feedback, the owner went back to the drawing board, made several key adjustments, and sent me this unreleased prototype to test and give my honest two cents on.

And I’ll say this right now…
When it’s 26°F outside and you’re sitting inside in a t-shirt, something is going right.
Gear Tested on This Trip:
    - Elk Mountain Tent – 16’ Bell Tent (Prototype)
    - PF Bereg Medium Wood Stove
    - Sparks Overland Mini Gas Heater
    - GoFluxx 3’ LED Lights (absolutely incredible- full video coming soon 👀)
    - Nebula Cosmos 4K SE Projector (yes… movies in a tent 😄)

Between the heat output, the livability, and the overall experience, this trip honestly felt surreal. Watching movies inside a warm bell tent while snow temps hovered in the 20s outside is something you have to experience to believe.

This video is a true hands-on, no-nonsense field test- not a showroom walkthrough. I’ll break down:

    - What changed from the 20’ version
    - What worked exceptionally well
    - What still needs improvement
    - And whether this tent is truly winter-worthy

Looking for a budget-friendly camping trailer that’s tough, versatile, and made right here in the USA? Finding the perfect trailer can be tricky. Most affordable options either fall apart on the trail or skimp on features. In this video, I break down the Big Slack Off Road Slack Wagon and its little brother, the Slack Wagon Junior, and show you why they’re some of the best value-packed off-road trailers on the market.

I’ll cover:

    - Specs and features of both trailers

    - Optional accessories and customizations
    - Real-world uses for camping, overlanding, and DIY projects
    - What to prioritize when choosing a quality budget-friendly trailer

Big Slack Budget-Friendly Camper

4wdTALK January 9, 2026 7:35 pm

After nearly 6 months of real-world use, this is my full hands-on review of the Howl R4, one of the most powerful, thoughtfully engineered propane fire systems I’ve tested to date.

This isn’t a quick first impression or a spec-sheet recap. I’ve run the Howl R4 in cold, wind, rain, snow, and elevation, using it exactly how most people would long nights at camp, winter trips, shoulder season outings, and burn-ban conditions.

What separates the Howl R4 from typical propane fire pits is real, usable heat. At over 1200°F operating temperature and pushing up to ~62,000 BTUs, this thing produces warmth that actually rivals a traditional campfire without smoke, embers, ash, or cleanup.

In this video, I break down how it performs, who it’s for, and why it’s built differently than most fire pits on the market.

Howl R4 Fire Pit 6 Month Review

4wdTALK January 8, 2026 7:00 pm

Last weekend I headed up to Big Bear, California to put the Overland-ish Basecamp to the test in true winter conditions - and for the first time ever, this tent is now capable of becoming a bonafide hot tent.

In this video, I’m testing a simple new accessory that allows you to safely run a wood stove inside the Overland-ish Basecamp, completely changing what this tent is capable of in cold-weather camping. I’ll walk you through how it works, why it matters, and what it unlocks for winter overlanders.

On top of that, I’m also:
    - Showing a prototype insulated floor designed specifically for the Basecamp
    - Testing new lighting I’ve been running in camp
    - Heating the tent using the Sparks Overland Mini gas heater for comparison
    - Talking real-world winter comfort, heat retention, and usability in snow conditions

If you’ve ever loved the Basecamp for its fast setup and build quality but wished it could handle true winter camping, this video is going to get your attention.

As always, this isn’t a showroom walkthrough - this is real gear, real conditions, real testing.
