Hey friends — Alex here. I headed out to Joshua Tree this past weekend for a quick shakedown run to test out two new cold-weather tools: the brand-new Bereg wood stove and the Sparks Overland Mini Diesel Heater.

Now, I’ve been using the Bereg UP7 tent for a few months and already know what it can handle — but this trip was all about seeing how these new heat sources perform together before true winter camping begins.

In this video, I’m doing more talking-to-camera than usual, sharing perspective on:

*The confusion surrounding authentic Bereg tents vs. China-made clones
* How the new Bereg wood stove performs inside the UP7
* Why shake-down testing is one of the most important steps before heading into freezing conditions
* And my thoughts on cold-weather camping — my personal favorite time of year to get out

The temps in Joshua Tree only dipped into the mid-40s, which made it a perfect safe environment to test and dial in these new systems. Both crushed expectations, and I’ve got deeper-dive videos coming soon where I’ll push them in true winter conditions.

Joshua Tree Shake-Down: Bereg UP7 + NEW Bereg Wood Stove & Sparks Mini Diesel Heater

4wdTALK October 29, 2025 7:25 pm

After two years of real-world use across the rugged landscapes of the American Southwest, I’m sharing my honest two-year review of the MORRFlate TenSix PSI Pro Gen 2 portable air compressor. From high mountain passes to desert trails, this compressor has been my go-to for fast, reliable tire inflation after long days on the trail. I’ll walk through the key features, real-world performance, and the Gen 2 upgrades that make this unit a standout for overlanders, off-roaders, and campers alike.

I’ll also break down how pairing it with the MORRFlate 4 Tire Inflation & Deflation Kit transforms it from a strong performer into a true trailhead timesaver. If you’re looking for a compressor that combines speed, durability, and ease of use, this review will help you decide if the TenSix PSI Pro Gen 2 is the right fit for your setup.

Have questions about how it performs in specific conditions or with different rigs? Drop them in the comments, and I’ll share my firsthand experience!

MORRFlate TenSix PSI Pro Gen 2 portable air compressor Two-Year Review

4wdTALK October 28, 2025 7:18 pm

After 6 years of testing portable diesel heaters in every condition imaginable, I didn’t think anything could beat my trusted Planar… until now.

In today’s video, I unbox the brand-new Sparks Overland Mini Diesel Heater — a compact powerhouse that’s smaller, lighter, and more efficient than their full-size gas and diesel versions I’ve been testing the last two years.

We’ll go over what’s new, what’s improved, and why this little unit might just change the game for winter camping, overlanding, and off-grid setups.

🔧 SPECS:
  • Dimensions: 20 x 12 x 12.5 in
  • Weight: 36 lbs (16.3 kg)
  • Fuel Tank: 2.2-gallon stainless steel
  • Output: 4,000W / 14,000 BTU

Get your heater today: https://www.sparksoverland.com/

If you’ve followed my channel, you know I’ve sworn by the Planar for five straight years… but Sparks Overland just earned my new top spot.

👉 Watch till the end for my first impressions and what I’ll be testing next.

NEW Sparks Overland Mini Diesel Heater – First Look & Breakdown

4wdTALK October 18, 2025 8:35 pm

In this video, I’m back in Lamar, Missouri, where I got to check out something really special — a prototype off-road version of the Freedom Camper.

At the time of this recording, this off-road setup isn’t even listed on their website yet, but if you’re interested, I’d highly recommend giving Freedom Campers a call.

What they’ve done here is take one of their lightweight modular campers — available in three sizes: 48x79, 58x79, and 58x89 — and mount it on a custom-built off-road trailer. The result is an incredibly versatile, budget-friendly, and durable setup that’s ready to go wherever your adventures take you.

During this walkthrough, you’ll see me and one of the owners going over all the details, exploring how this build combines creativity, affordability, and rugged capability.

👉 These campers weigh only around 180 pounds and cost about $3,300–$3,500, making them perfect for anyone looking to build their own off-road trailer or a lightweight overlanding setup without breaking the bank.

If you’re a DIY builder, this camper is your blank slate — customize it, mod it, and make it your own.

Winter camping isn’t for everyone… but if you love the quiet, the crisp air, and the fact that there are ZERO bugs — you get it. Cold-weather camping can be incredible — as long as you have the right tent.

In this video, I’m breaking down what really matters when choosing a tent that can handle freezing temperatures, snow loads, and howling wind. We’ll cover:

   - Why the structure and materials of your tent matter more than the brand name
   - How insulation and ventilation work together to keep you warm and dry
   - The safest and most effective ways to heat your tent (without turning it into a fire hazard)
   - And what kind of space and layout make life easier when you’re snowed in for a few days

I’ll also share what I’ve learned after five years of testing tents like the Bereg UP-5, UP-7, and Hexagon through real mountain winters — including what features actually make a difference when the weather turns nasty.

Also on topic, I'll be covering how I heat the various tents I use in winter months using a combination of Bereg Woodstoves and Sparks Overland Diesel and Gas heaters.

If you’re thinking about trying cold-weather camping for the first time — or upgrading from a three-season tent — this video will help you make a smarter choice before you find yourself shivering in a nylon igloo!

I get asked a lot of questions about my camping setup, so in this video I’m taking you behind the scenes in the Big Bear backcountry to answer the top 5 most common ones.

From a brand-new diesel heater from Sparks Overland I’m testing, to what my sleeping setup looks like, to what happened with my old truck (and a first look at the new one 🚙), I’m breaking it all down. I’ll also walk you through the setup time on the Sonmez inflatable tents and share a few extra details from camp that might help with your own adventures.

* Whether you’re new to overlanding or a seasoned camper, this Q&A should give you ideas for gear, comfort, and setup efficiency out in the wild.

If you have more questions about gear, setup, or camping in general, drop them in the comments—I might include them in the next Q&A!

Backcountry Camping Q&A: Sparks Overland Diesel Heater, Truck Update & Gear Setup

4wdTALK September 25, 2025 10:03 pm

After two years of real-world camping trips, snowstorms, coastal winds, and plenty of father-son adventures, it’s time for my honest long-term review of the Sonmez London Discover 360 inflatable tent.

I’ve owned three Sonmez tents, but the London 360 is hands-down my favorite thanks to its perfect balance of size, weight, and durability. In this video, I’ll share what’s held up, what hasn’t, and why I keep coming back to this tent trip after trip.

👉 What I cover in this review:
    - Why I prefer the London 360 over larger models like the Maxia 480
    - The pros: build quality, panoramic windows, four-season performance
    - The cons: wrinkled windows, missing screens, heavy packed weight
    - How many people can actually fit comfortably inside (spoiler: not 10!)
-Also see how I'm heating these tents!

After testing the ICECO VL75 ProD Portable Fridge Freezer with the 250 Wh Magnetic Power Bank for 4 months, I can say this fridge has completely changed the way my son and I camp.

No more soggy food. No more melted ice. Just reliable dual-zone cooling that keeps drinks cold, meat frozen, and snacks ready for my 10-year-old who eats like a linebacker.
