Removing steel cable from Warn Zeon winch, replacing with synthetic while installed on bumper?

Hey all, I'm helping out a friend on Saturday who has a Warn Zeon winch with steel cable on it. He's bought synthetic replacement for it. Can this be swapped out while still on the bumper?
