Propane vs Butane cookers?

I'm looking at cooking stoves now and wondering, why do some run on propane and others butane? Is there a preference, which is better?

Well butane cans and stoves tend to be smaller so if saving space is an issue i would go with a single burner with butane cans vs coleman stove with big bulky propane...

As far a a cooking stand point i think the pretty much produce the same amount of heat.

Propane is cheaper and easier to find though.

I don't like how things taste with anything but wood or charcoal.
