Best motor that will direct fit in 1995 Jeep Wrangler?

Last night I left a deposit down on a used 1995 Jeep Wrangler that isn't running, but I got it for $500 bucks! I was told everything works, except the motor. The existing motor is completely dead. The interior looks great and the paint looks awesome. So I'm thinking of going one of two routes:

1. Replace the existing motor with the best motor Jeep made that will bolt up.
2. Replace stock with a V8 conversion motor from the start.

Now I do believe if I go the V8 route, I need to replace all sorts of stuff. I'll ask about that later if I go that option.

What about the stock motor option? Thank you for your help.

'95 is supposed to be a solid motor, what's wrong with the existing motor?
