Place a ring of rocks around the perimeter of the circle to create a barrier and contain the fire.

Once the kindling is in place, add larger fuelwood on top in a similar crisscross pattern. Light the fire by igniting the tinder, and once the fire is well-established, maintain a consistent size and heat level by adding fuelwood as needed.

Though campfire cooking is fantastic, it isn’t always practical. You can’t always fit a bunch of firewood in your overlanding rig, and you might not always stop to camp in locations where there are fire rings (or open fires allowed, for that matter).
