About Us – 4wdTalk

Who We Are

My name is Alex Schult, and I founded 4wdTalk out of a lifelong passion for the outdoors and a belief that education transforms adventure. I grew up in the country, served as an engineer in the Army, and have spent the last 30 years building online brands around my hobbies. Along the way, my work has been featured in outlets like Forbes, Inc Magazine, Entrepreneur, Huffington Post, Jay Leno’s Garage, Speed Channel, and SPIKE TV.

But the most important role I hold is being a father. Nothing means more than creating lasting memories outdoors and passing down life skills that will serve my son for years to come. Those values — curiosity, hard work, and adventure — are at the core of 4wdTalk.

Why 4wdTalk Exists

When I looked around the outdoor and overlanding space, I noticed too many reviews felt sponsored, too many guides lacked real-world testing, and too much content didn’t connect with the people actually heading outdoors.

I wanted to change that. 4wdTalk was founded to provide outdoor enthusiasts with educational tools and resources to take their curiosity about the outdoors to the next level. Whether you’re learning how to build your first campfire, looking for honest gear reviews, exploring advanced overlanding techniques, or converting your truck into an overlanding off-road beast, we’re here to give you the confidence to get out there.

What We Offer

At 4wdTalk, you’ll find content built on firsthand experience as a four-season camper who’s tested gear in every condition. Our focus is simple:

  • Gear Reviews → Honest, with all the pros and cons, and based on long-term real-world use.
  • How-To Guides → From fire-starting and cooking to winter camping and recovery basics.
  • Adventure Inspiration → Stories and tips to spark your next trip.
  • Family Connection → Resources and ideas for parents who want to pass on outdoor skills and memories to the next generation.

This isn’t theory — it’s the same knowledge I use on every trip with my family, and it’s shared with the same candor I’d give to a close friend.

Our Philosophy

At 4wdTalk, honesty comes first. If a piece of gear works, we’ll tell you why. If it doesn’t, we’ll say that too. Every article and review is meant to empower you with knowledge, not sell you a product.

We also believe in respecting the outdoors — following Leave No Trace principles, emphasizing safety, and supporting USA-made products whenever possible. And above all, we believe that camping and overlanding are more than hobbies — they’re opportunities to build skills, create memories, and discover what really matters.

Looking Ahead

4wdTalk continues to grow with new reviews, more educational guides, and stories that bring the outdoor community closer together. My hope is simple: that readers find the same joy and life lessons in the outdoors that I’ve been fortunate to experience — both on my own and with my family.

Thanks for being part of this journey.

Sincerely,
Alex Schult
