Where to get started with using a HAM radio?

Anyone using a HAM radio? How did you get started with this? I guess I'm looking to see what is the best way to get started with this?

If you have a license, try to find out if there is a local "net" that runs each week. A "net" is a group of amateur radio operators who get together periodically on the air to talk to each other, answer any radio related questions anyone may have, and just become proficient with their radios. The more you use it, the better you get, and learn more tips and hints to operate more effectively and break bad radio habits you may have.
