What are these trucks used for?

YouTube got me today and thought I would enjoy this video on 8x8 trucks. Oh I did! But what are these trucks used for and why don't we see these here in the states?

Most of that stuff is designed for mining. Some of the diffrent manufactures could have a presence here but don't for some reason. I personally blame politics. Why would you want a multi use platform like a uni mog when you could by a single use platform from John Deer.

Instead of having 4 of the same vehicle platforms outfitted differently, you can spend way more money buying 4 diffrent designs.

If you really want a big race truck, you want a Kamaz Dakar truck



To add to this. In the late 80's, during the Dakar race, an older version of this passed one of the top drivers (who was in a car) doing over 120 mph. 1200 hp, twin engine, cab over, truck.
