Question regarding snow driving and using chains

I just got through watching Story till nows episode and they are in some serious snow back country. Spinning away. Now they do have their tires aired down, but no one is using chains. Why is that? Are chains not cool or something? Seriously though, wouldn't chains help in deep snow conditions?
