Battery discharge temperature range

If a battery has a discharge temp window of -4 to 150F. When temps get under -4, what does that mean to the battery? Will it still discharge, but risk chance of damage OR just stop working all together?

Actually on that topic, if for just short period of time are these OK at those temps?
