How to get started with overlanding?

First off, what is the difference between overlanding and camping? Back on the topic of wanting to start getting out, how do you start? Actually what should I get starting out?

Thank you for any tips you can provide as well.

camping is a part of overlanding. Overlanding is taking a car or truck and traveling the world for many days or even months. Each night you stop at a different place and camp, the next day you continue to other places. In most cases it is done through dirt road and places less traveled.

Getting started is easy, you need a car and a tent. If you can, get a 4x4. It will open up many opportunities to see stuff!

Yep, agree with Bronco dude. When you are starting out, unless you are certain you like this lifestyle, don't go overboard in buying up everything you can. Head out with the basics, see if you like it and add onto things from there.

get some rated recovery points, a tow strap and some traction boards just incase you get stuck anywhere!
Thank you, so that is good for the truck. But what about the camping aspect of things, any things I should get aside from shelter and sleeping bag?

If you are unsure about camping in general, yeah that's all you need. Get a tent large enough for the number of people heading out with you, sleeping bags. Ground mats or bring some sort of air mattress. Then have some means of cooking figured out, are you going to grill or make Mountain House meals? Bring trash bags and have a cooler to keep your food cold.

just take with you what you would take on a normal days camping and go somewhere close to home. Don't overthink it, just get out there and slowly you will understand how it works and what you need to take with you and what you don't
