Big tires on an old truck

I am thinking of putting 33 or 35 inch tires on my old G wagon. It is a naturally aspirated 300D (OM617) so not much power. Presumably, on road it will suffer a lot. However, what about off road? Will I be making it better or worst than it currently is?

If you make some further peripheral mods such as stronger axles, lower gearing, and maybe some more power it will become much better in the hard stuff!

I would stay with a slightly smaller size unless you are willing to do other peripheral mods such as stronger axles, more power and lower gearing. In many instance people make 4x4s less capable by opting for larger tires
