the weight it adda up high I would say

the fact that it destroys the aerodynamics of your vehicle and therefore your gas milage takes a big hit

It is too high up there so you can easily smash it on branches or trees

Damn, there isn't one. I spent 17 years sleeping in ground tents and with the exception of a couple new ones we had, most are a pain in the ass to set up. You are on the ground with critters and other animals and when you store it away, takes up valuable space in your rig. Roof top tents are mounted out of the way, easy as hell to set up and you are off the ground.

One more thing, you have a mattress if you get a good one! Seems like they sell themselves.
