Sprinters, you can get those all in one units that have both toilet and shower. No blackwater, just cassette toilet that you access from side of van. These don't take up that much room and can be pretty compact.

I always wave to Jeeps, I don't judge on age. The highest number of non-wave-backs I see are from NON Wranglers (Cherokees etc.).

I wouldn't think twice about it. If a spot doesn't have personal property on the premises, I wouldn't worry about it. If they place had a reserve system in place, they would have been covered, but first come first have, it's fair game. Leaving the fire going was just irresponsible on their end.
