What is the reason for people's preference for ground tents?

What are the reasons that make ground tents appealing to people despite the fact that they require sleeping on the ground with insects, take longer to set up and break down, and occupy storage space with the tent and any bedding, while rooftop tents are generally considered more comfortable?

I'm not sure there is a strong appeal for them. Personally, with all the Yogi's and critters around where I live and camp, I want nothing to do with the ground when camping.

Budget, many of those RTTs are so expensive and trailers are out of question for many.

Ground tents are fun, but it’s kind of like vinyl records fun, there is a bit of nostalgia that goes with setting up one.

Price has got to be at the front of that list. Grounds tents for the most part are far less than RRTs. Unless you talking about larger canvas tents.
