River crossing sin a petrol

How do you prepare a petrol engine for a trip with a lot of river crossings? I am worried that the distributor and spark plug wire will get wet and the engine will run like badly until it dries out again.

It always happen when I clean the engine too!

Any ways this issue can be avoided?

Well the most delicate parts are the distributor and spark plug wires. Sometime a plastic bag over the distributor can help keep it dry. Also, when you cross the river switching the engine off and drying out the spark plug wires can prevent misfire issues.

Even if you get some misfiring it tends to go away after a few hours when the water dries out so it's no big deal
