Cutting down dead trees - dispersed camping

[LONOBEAR]

If a tree is clearly dead, and you are dispersed camping and have a permit for a campfire, can you cut down the dead tree to burn in your campfire?

[F Clayton]

When in question, don't cut anything that is standing. Wood already on the ground is fair game.

[LONOBEAR]

Fair enough, Thank you for your help

[Frank Vos]

Yup, long is it dead in on the ground already you’re good to go

[Overland Shark]

I never did understand why if they are dead that you can't cut down?

Campers should check local land-management rules before removing any standing or fallen trees, as regulations can vary between forests, parks, and public lands.
