Catalytic Converter Stolen!

My neighbor who is traveling through Arizona with his 2020 Sprinter who stayed at a hotel because their water system isn't working in the van and needs to be fixed. But they woke up to their catalytic converter stolen! Talk about a crummy way to start the day.

This has me thinking, what can we do to protect our vans from these being stolen? I was thinking I could make a cover that would provide an obstical, but not 100% sure on how this would be framed up or better yet, how I would fasten. So just tossing this out there to see what others think?

Don't they make sleeves that go around the pipes that make it difficult to cut?

Besides the expense of replacing the part, driving without a catalytic converter can cause loud exhaust noise, warning lights, reduced performance, and emissions issues.
