Staying connected while on the road?

My job mostly involves working from home through the internet; therefore, I can be anywhere I want to be as long as I have connection. Phone hotspots work great in the known areas but when cell phone reception isn't available staying connected becomes a problem.

Are there any devices that can solve this?
