Cold air intakes OK on offroad Jeep?

If you are spending a lot of time driving in super dusty and wet conditions, mainly dusty, is a cold air intake a bad idea?

What is the intake depth? If you are talking about something in the oem position, you should be fine. Go with a quality brand though, they will likely have more research into such scenarios.

Filter is everything as well as where you pull air from. Most "Ram Air" systems do more harm then good. At work we would put them on the dyno and play around. Some designs actually take away power. If you had a TJ, jeep really screwed up the stock intake design. The stock system actually robs power. I never played with the newer style jeep so, I cant comment on them.
Snorkels are hard to beat but, you have to cut a hole in the fender. Your washable air cleaners (UNI K&N) are screen doors. They allow a ton of dirt to pass through. Paper aircleaners filter best but are more restrictive. If your air box is sized properly, you can run a paper filter without any issues.
