4 Tire Inflation System Tutorial: How to Make 4 Tire Inflator & Deflator

I found this useful tutorial on a website, Not sure if the instruction suitable for my tire pump.

When you take your 4X4 vehicles off roading, you will need to air down the tire for the trail and then air them back for the drive home, which is very time-consuming and tedious.

Let’s say airing down a Tacoma 33S/285 70 by 10 PSI, it may take 2 mins per tire, you will have to squat or bend over to air out the tires. That’s why 4 tire inflation/deflation systems get popular. So we will make a step-by-step to show how to make your own 4 tire Inflator & Deflator.

First, you will need to gather the kits and accessories below, and you can get most of them from Amazon.

If you already have the components mentioned above, there’s no need to buy them again. Just one thing to note: the gauge used in the tutorial is a perfect match for the manifold, so you don’t need an extra adapter.

Do with the Center Manifold​

As you can see, there are 3 couplers down there, and one 1/4 NPT male plug, but what you really is the center part. So, remove the couplers and plug for later use.

We will use one for air intake from the 12V air compressor, one to connect to the tire pressure gauge, and the remaining two for the ‘Y’ air hoses.

Get the hoses done​

Step 1: Cutting the air hoses

We’ve got two 25-feet air hose, one hose for the two tires at the left, and one for the tires at the right.

First. Cut the air hose in half, Run the air hose to the back tire and give it a little slack. Run it all the way to the front tire and give it a little slack as well. Cut the hose in the center and put a T hose connector there. Do the same on the other side, making sure you have enough hose for the back tire.

Step 2: Install the Tee Hose Connectors

For the hose running to the front of the engine bay, cut off about 16 inches. Heat up the end of the hose and insert the T hose connector. Clamp the hose on this side, which goes to the main unit. Install the air hose fitting off the tee, making sure to tighten the hose clamp. Do the same on the other side.

Step 3: Install the Tire Chucks

Put Teflon tape on the tire chuck’s threading and make sure it doesn’t block the opening. Tighten it down on the rear tire and front tire.

Step 4: Connect the Hose to the Central Unit

Connect the two ends of the hose to the central unit. Use the air hose fittings to connect the hose to the central unit. Use two opening wrenches to tighten the fittings.

You can also use the hose fitting at the end of the air hose, allowing the air chunk connects with the fitting. This means you will need four additional Reusable Air Fittings. Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary.

Connect Manifold Center​

To install the tire pressure gauge, first, make sure to use the plumber’s tape to seal the threaded connection onto the center part. Your air fitting should be a perfect match for the center part, so just screw it in tightly.

Finally, attach the 1/4-inch female coupler to the Husky shut-off valve, and connect the Tozalazz air compressor to the other end.

When you are using a 4-tire inflation system, it’s important to wait sometime for the system to equalize the air pressure after you shut off the air compressor.
