MPGs affected by dirty air filter??

I guessed I missed this memo potentially. My MPGs I have noticed have continued to go do down. Now I just cleaned my air filter, actually replaced it and my MPGs have gone up! So leads me to question, how much does a dirty filter affect MPGs?

Without turning this into a huge airflow lecture, the short answer is yes, the long answer is maybe.
Modern computerized vehicles will compensate for the lower air flow. What you see is less power. Less power means you push your foot down farther. More throttle means lower milage.

Also, not all air filters are the same. Based on how their constructed, diffrent companies will flow their filters at diffrent rates. High flow air cleaners let dirt in. Good filtering limits airflow.
