Who invented the roof top tent as we know today?

Hey there, so the thing about rooftop tents is that they don't really have a single inventor. People have been using tents on top of vehicles for a long time, and different versions have been used by various cultures throughout history. But the kind of rooftop tent that's super popular with outdoor enthusiasts today is usually credited to a company called Eezi-Awn, which introduced the first commercially available rooftop tent in 1983. Since then, tons of other companies around the world have started making their own versions of rooftop tents, and they've become a really popular option for camping and overlanding.

That was a great read.
I got mine in the late 90's from an African company (don't remember the name). I had the impression it was one of the first. Guess not.
