Where to store truck topper when not in use?

We want a truck bed topper, but don't want it on all the time and trying to figure out where do people store there's when not in use? Specifically I've heard that you can mount some sort of crane system in your garage that will lift the topper off the truck and store towards the ceiling. How safe are these things? I have young kids running around and of course don't want anything falling on top of them.

Any known issues?
