Troubleshooting: 98 Cherokee XJ transfer case shifting problems

Hey guys I gots a 98 Cherokee XJ and i can't seem to shift into 4WD! The shifter won't move at all, any solutions you think I can try myself before I bring it in to the local mechanic?
