Gaia work with no cell signal?

Those of you with Gaia, will that work when you have no cell signal?

You can download sections of your map ahead of time for offline use.

I use Gaia mainly now for my trips. As @WandereR said, you download the map before you go. I'll add another point to this. When I download, I have the layers set to USGS Topo and Satellite with labels. I download two layers at a time. In the tool bar I can switch between the two. I also found, stepping up for GAIA premium gave me more features.
For me GAIA seems to work best.

Is there a limit to how many downloads you can have with Gaia?

Not so far. The files can be huge though if you want any detail. I dont remember what scale I use but, I cant download Calif as a whole. I only store the common areas in my Tablet.
