Aside from Australia and United States...

Which countries are big into overlanding? A buddy and I were discussing this earlier on the origin of 'overlanding'. Pretty sure it's Australia or United States? But aside from those, are there any countries where overlanding is a big deal?

When I was young, most of the article's I read were Australia and Africa. Once in a while Siberia. The trips through the South American jungles never used the word overland (that I remember) even though I would say it applies. The same with Sahara Desert. It was just "Driving across the Sahara".

They would be titled something like "Overland through the Australian outback". When you read the article no one used the word "Overland" other than to say "we drove Overland to get there". It was just driving, camping and sight seeing.
Even though I owned a Willy's Overland, we just went off road and camped. Gawd I wish I still had that truck.
