You Can Off-Road With This Trailer (and Live in It, Too)

It’s not often that you can describe an off-road trailer as being “rough and ready” for off-road camping and “ready for long-term living” at the same time. Yet, here we are with the OBi Dweller!

We’ve highlighted this trailer many times on 4WDTalk, but those features have focused on its impressive features for off-roading and overlanding. But this trailer is so well equipped that you could live in it long-term if you want or need.

The video above by ROA Off Road gives you more insight into this concept. Check it out and get a quick tour to see how this off-road-ready rig is also capable of being a permanent residence.

I’ve outlined some of the video highlights below for your convenience.

This Off-Road Trailer is Easy to Tow and Offers Expandable Living Space

One of the most essential features of an off-road trailer is that it’s easy to tow. The Dweller 15 isn’t the smallest off-road trailer out there, but it’s smart design makes it easily towable with a compact truck, like a Toyota Tacoma.

For example, this is a pop-top trailer, so when you’re cruising down the highway, the trailer has less surface area, which produces less drag, which, in turn, makes it easier to tow.

Likewise, there’s a slide-out at the rear of the trailer that gives you much more living space when you’re at camp, but again, keeps the profile of the trailer smaller while you’re on the road.

At a little more than 5,000 pounds dry, 20 feet long, 6’9” wide, and 7’6” (collapsed), this trailer has the dimensions and weight that make it capable of off-roading (the two-foot ground clearance definitely helps) while giving you plenty of interior space for long-term living. It’s the best of both worlds!

Storage is a Must for Camping and Long-Term Living

No matter if you’re heading out for a long weekend of off-grid camping or you’re planning to move into your off-road trailer for the long haul, storage is something you will need.

Actually, smart storage is something you need…

It’s one thing to have cabinets and cupboards all over the place, but it’s another thing to have interior and exterior storage that helps you keep your stuff organized and gives you easy access to your gear. The Dweller 15 does just that.

For example, the exterior storage compartments just behind the nose of the trailer have slide out trays that give you the organization and easy access I just mentioned. Having these trays means you don’t have to dig around for what you need, nor do you have to put your entire upper body into the storage bay to get something. Just pull the trays out and all your gear is right there for the taking!

This exterior storage in this off-road trailer is complemented by tons of interior storage cabinets and cubbies. As you can see above, there’s cabinets and drawers on the left, plus more cabinets flanking the entrance to the bed area. That’s still not all the storage this bad boy offers!

The point is that OBi has been purposeful in the design of this trailer to maximize storage space. By doing so, they’ve developed a trailer that is a legitimate option for long-term occupancy.

What About Comfort and Convenience in an Off-Road Trailer?

In my experience, many off-road trailers are lacking in the comfort and convenience department. You might get a sleeping area, for example, but it might only be a full-size mattress. You might get a bathroom, too, but it might only be a toilet.

That’s not the case with the Dweller 15…

This trailer has a laundry list of comfort and convenience items that make it a joy to stay in for a camping trip or for full-time living:

  • Power system – This trailer has three 100-watt Renogy solar panels and three Renogy 100ah batteries mated to a 2000-watt Renogy inverter.
  • Bathroom – You can enjoy a FULL bathroom, complete with a sink, toilet, and stand-up shower (the pop-top roof makes the shower that much more spacious). There’s also an outdoor shower!
  • Water storage – This rig has a 21-gallon fresh water tank, a 31-gallon city water tank, and a 21-gallon gray water tank. The cassette toilet has its own 5-gallon tank so you don’t have to use your fresh water for flushing.
  • Heat and air – The Truma Combi furnace and water heater keep you toasty while the under-bunk air conditioner is perfectly positioned to keep you cool during the summer months.
  • Eating and sleeping – Have dinner on the dining table inside or set up a table outside under the 12-foot electric awning. When your belly is full, hit the sack on a plush queen mattress.

The OBi Dweller 15 also has a well-appointed pull-out galley with a sink and a two-burner stovetop. There’s a separate pull-out refrigerator and freezer, too.

So, again, whether you’re on the road for months at a time or just taking the Dweller out for the weekend, it’s got you covered with all the comfort and convenience you can handle!

So, the theme here is pretty simple – OBi’s genius design makes the Dweller 15 an off-road trailer that you can take deep into the wilderness for a week-long trip while also being something you can park at an RV park and live in year-round. I don’t know how many trailers give you two feet of ground clearance plus amenities like a full bathroom and air conditioning, but my guess is that the list is short!

The features outlined above just scratch the surface, too!
