This Teardrop Trailer from Sunnyside Offroad Makes Camping Well Worth It

Some folks love tent camping. Give them a sleeping pad and a sleeping pad to throw inside, and they’re good to go!

Other folks want something a little more comfortable, and I can’t say that I blame them. When out in the woods, the comfort of a bed and the security of an enclosed camper are amenities that are worth serious consideration.

This is where a trailer comes into play…

In addition to providing a protected and comfortable place to sleep, teardrop trailers are easy to tow, are off-road capable, and have all sorts of features and amenities that make your camping trip all the better.

One of the most intriguing teardrop trailers on the market today is the Boony Stomper from Sunnyside Offroad. You can learn more about it in the video above! In the article below, I discuss some of this trailer’s best amenities that make it an appealing camping option.

A Teardrop Trailer is Too Small, Right?

Well, not really – a teardrop trailer isn’t too small. With clever packaging, you can sleep two people (or more, in some cases) in comfort while also having space for gear storage.

The Boony Stomper is 111 inches long from tongue to rear bumper. The cabin is 6’4” long. So, most people will have plenty of space in terms of legroom.

Width-wise, you get 46”, which isn’t massive but isn’t tiny either. There’s room to cozy up with your significant other for a good night’s rest.

Aside from the sleeping space, you get loads of storage cabinets in the cabin. With so much storage, you can keep bedding, clothing, toiletries, and other camping items neatly tucked away.

It’s also worth mentioning that the interior is finished with carpeted walls, a carpeted headboard, and linoleum floors. As you can see from the photos, it’s a nicely finished space to hang out or sleep.

Can Teardrop Trailers Even Go Off-Road?

Teardrop trailers that are built correctly can go off-road. Thanks to a custom fabricated long travel independent trailing arm suspension, the Boony Stomper can handle the beating of off-roading while also staying composed behind your tow vehicle.

Aside from the suspension, the Boony Stomper features a strong steel 2×2 frame that can take the weight of your gear over rough roads. Speaking of weight, the whole trailer only weighs 600 lbs and has a tongue weight of just 89 lbs. This means that it can be towed by most 4x4s while also being nimble on off-road trails.

Aren’t Teardrop Trailers Just a Tin Can?

While teardrop trailers are based on steel construction, they are by no means tin cans. The Boony Stomper includes options that take it to a whole other level.

For example, if you need more interior comfort, you can add a 6” dual-density foam mattress with a poly cover that transforms the way you sleep. For electricity, you can choose between a Jackery 240 or 500, and for outdoor shelter, you can have a CVT Pioneer Series Awning.

Aside from the above, Sunnyside off-road trailers offer even more add-ons. These include:

  • Custom Boony Roof Rack
  • Spare Tire and Matching Wheel
  • Spare Tire Rear Mount and Install
  • USB Charging Port
  • Interior Cargo Nets
  • External AC Power Port
  • Folding Side Table
  • 18.5-Liter LifeSaver Jerry Can Water Purifier
  • Tongue Box

You can also take some of your favorite gear to make this trailer more comfortable. For example, a heated blanket or diesel heater will make winter teardrop trailer camping feel like home.

A fire pit to sit by the awning and some comfortable chairs can make up for a very luxurious and comfortable campsite as well!

Can’t I Make My Own Teardrop?

Of course, you can make your own teardrop trailer; however, it will take a lot of time. Also, unless you have experience with such work, the result won’t be as good as a readily available product.

You need to keep in mind that a teardrop trailer is meant to cruise down the road. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that suspension and brake geometries are perfect because if they aren’t, they can cause safety issues.

A homemade trailer will undoubtedly be cheaper to build if you have the tools needed. However, you need to factor in the time required to do it. On the other hand, if you need to go out and buy all the tools, you will be much closer to the price of something like the Boony Stomper. This raises the question of whether it is worth going through all that trouble.

Building your own teardrop trailer will be a learning experience and allows you to make it exactly as you want; however, the process is certainly more complicated than you think. You will need to do welding, bending, woodwork, and geometry design, to name a few.

I’m all for learning new skills and building things from scratch, but in this case, leaning on the expertise of professionals is the way to go!

Final Thoughts

Teardrop trailers are a game changer when it comes to vehicle camping. The reason we love them is that they are small and lightweight. This means that they don’t hinder your ability to tackle tough trails. A small teardrop trailer behind a powerful truck will barely be noticed.

Teardrops like the Boony Stomper also provide more comfort and security over a tent that may be all you or one of your loved ones needs to head out camping. Tents are fun, but a teardrop trailer takes it to another level.
