The Next Generation of Toy Hauler Camper is Here – Compact, Lightweight, & Built to Last

The last weekend in March, I headed up to the California Power Sports Expo to check out new and exciting outdoor gear.

Full disclosure – it was not my original plan to go to the Expo. However, when I heard that RKS Off-Road (who’s responsible for the Purpose trailer – one of the most innovative trailers I’ve seen in years) would be there with big news to share, I canceled my plans and took my son to the Expo.

I’m glad I did.

I’d heard a few rumors about what the RKS Off-Road team had in store – just some vague specs about a new trailer. I never imagined that they could raise the bar even higher than they did with the Purpose Trailer. Yet, they did!

Their new creation is the Motive Trailer – it’s a toy hauler camper with the same superb build quality of the Purpose Trailer, but in toy hauler form.

Let’s have a look at the next generation of toy hauler campers – compact, lightweight, and built to last!

Additionally, the M19HD model has a dry weight of 4,100 lbs. and has a 3,400-lb. payload for a GVWR of 7,500 lbs. The garage fits a two-passenger side-by-side, which is possible because of the dual solid axles and 34-inch all-terrain tires.

So, clearly, the RKS Off-Road team was purposeful in the design of this trailer. It’s loaded up with features that truly make it an instant leader of the pack in the toy hauler camper world.

Interior Features of This Toy Hauler Camper

As you’d expect from RKS Off-Road, the interior of the Motive Trailer is something to behold…

As noted above, the M19HD sleeps 4-5 adults. There’s a queen bed and a California King bed inside, and the SkyDeck serves as a sleeping spot for additional folks that want to sleep under the stars.

You don’t have to rough it while you’re out with your bikes or ATVs, either. The Motive Trailer has a full bathroom with a shower and a porcelain macerator toilet. There’s a kitchen, too, with a Greystone cooktop, a stainless steel sink, and a 96L DZ cooler.

Powering the trailer’s systems is a premium lithium-ion battery system with a 2,400-watt inverter. A 400-watt solar panel is included (with the option to upgrade to 800-watts). This rig is ready for boondocking!

And while all of that is very impressive, the best part of the interior is that it’s made entirely of composite materials and aluminum. All the hardware is stainless steel, too.

This is a critically important feature because the interior of a toy hauler camper needs to be highly durable. The materials RKS Off-Road has used certainly fit the bill.

It’s worth noting that there’s T-slots at strategic locations throughout the trailer, so you can adapt the trailer to your specific needs. Additionally, there are D-rings and floor rails for securing your toys.

Of course, the fact that the Motive Trailer has best-in-class garage space is a nice feature, too. You can fit more gear without having to compromise on your living space. Likewise, this trailer is well-balanced and the lightest in its class, so you also get the advantage of excellent towability.

Toy Hauler Camper Exterior Features

The exterior of this trailer is just as impressive as the inside…

The Motive Trailer is the only toy hauler camper with a true rooftop deck for entertaining and sleeping. Climb the exterior ladder to get on the roof, sit down in your favorite camp chair, and enjoy a beverage while you gaze out at the beauty around you! On sunny days, you can even bask in the shade of an optional marine-grade bimini top.

Up front is an Aerobox storage area that gives you space to keep your gear while also improving the trailer’s aerodynamics. Speaking of storage, there’s plenty of places to keep your gear inside the trailer, too.

This rig is also ready to go off-roading.

With a single or dual solid axle and beefy 34-inch all-terrain tires to give it more ground clearance, you can take the Motive Trailer just about anywhere your tow vehicle can go.

And while the looks of a trailer probably aren’t all that important, I have to say that this trailer looks absolutely incredible. It’s sleek, modern, and looks a little mean – in a good way! You half expect KITT and David Hasselhoff to be inside when you lower the rear gate!

What Sets the RKS Off-Road Toy Hauler Camper Apart?

I mentioned earlier that RKS Off-Road’s Purpose Trailer absolutely blew me away the first time I saw it. From a build-quality perspective, there is simply no match. The RKS team’s background in automotive engineering certainly shines through in that trailer and in their new Motive Trailer.

These trailers are designed, engineered, and manufactured here in the U.S. as well. I’ve said it many times before – as a veteran and a small business owner, I always appreciate when companies keep jobs here at home and help build our economy.

For what it’s worth, you won’t find nicer people than Elisabeth and Travis and their team of dedicated professionals, either. They’re passionate about what they do, dedicated to your safety and comfort, committed to high quality standards, and have fun while doing it!

If you enjoy overlanding and off-roading and want to be able to take your dirt bikes or side-by-side along for the ride, this is the trailer for you. Visit RKS Off-Road to get all the details, or check out my walkthrough video below:
