Is the All-New GMC Sierra Good For Overlanding?

GMC Pressroom

GMC hasn’t just updated the Sierra, it has also added two brand-new trim levels and one of them may be enough to deem this vehicle overland capable.

As is the case with all new trucks, many changes have been made to the all-new GMC Sierra, and in this article, we will be covering all of them.

GMC Denali Ultimate

The biggest exterior changes have been done to the front end. As you can see, the new truck has an updated headlight design, chrome tow hooks, some functional air vents, and a new grill which is on par (size-wise) with all the new grills that seem to be entering the current market.

The Ultimate comes with a unique wheel design in the form of 22-inch alloys wrapped in some Bridgestone H/T tires. But that’s just one change in the all-new GMC Sierra…

This trim level presents the most luxurious form of this truck; therefore, you can expect to get plenty of creature comforts inside.

Similar to the competition, this truck features a lot of leather, wireless charging, heated front, and rear seats, supercruise, an absurd number of screens, and some unique easter eggs focused around Denali National Park.

Under the hood, you will still find the same 6.2L V6 or the 3.0L Diesel Duramax straight-six.

The All-New GMC Sierra AT4X

What are the differences between the AT4X and the Ultimate? Let’s begin with the interesting stuff.

This variant comes with DSSV Multimatic spool valve shocks, and the wheels are now smaller at 18 inches and are wrapped with some Goodyear Duratrac all-terrain tires.

The suspension doesn’t add any lift, but it improves wheel articulation.

The interior is also unique for this truck with different materials that give it a more rugged look. Black leather seats with AT4X badging are available as well as some rubber floor mats to make cleaning the truck after a day out easier.

An optional rock slider can also be chosen, and it is mounted on the chassis; therefore, it will be able to withstand the impacts encountered when off-roading! If you don’t want the sliders you can opt for a power step.

Interestingly this truck offers a selectable front and rear locker which is a unique feature. The front locker will set this vehicle apart when compared to a vehicle with just a rear differential lock.

Additionally, the exhaust pipes are now under the bumper to protect them from bashing into the ground when off-roading.

Payload for the AT4X is 1,420 pounds and towing capacity goes up to 8,900 pounds. The bed also features a 400w outlet which will make powering tools or camping equipment a breeze.
