Very important spec to look out for when buy a roof rack

Did you know that the weight rating on many roof racks is a static rating? Therefore, the weight the manufacturer says is safe putting on the rack is only true when the vehicle is stationary.

If the vehicle is moving that weight drops and you need to make sure you know what the number of the kinetic weight is.

If you don't you run the risk of damage, accidents and even voided insurance!

I had now idea about this, thank you for mentioning. It seems then that the weight roof racks are able to carry is pretty low!

Good to know. Certainly didn't know such issues even existed so it is good you have pointed it out. I might need to do some checks on my own gear as well

Yep, that is correct. This video explains it well:
I have seen this video before and I must say it was eye opening. Most manufacturers put the static load rating on there just so people thing the rack can carry more. This is stupid and damn right dangerous as most people have no idea their racks are overloaded.

But there you go, not manufacturers care more about money rather than safety
