Don't put yourself in the position. But I would take the 44 Mag

It needs some training to hit em with a gun. And most have just smaller handguns.

Afraid and untrained, most will not hit em once with a mag and 15 shots..

So running away if possible, is the best way.

Yep, calm nerves is the name of the game. But more on fire arms I would carry, a 12 gauge shot gun! Handguns are nice and convenient, but I think for most people when put into a situation like that (including myself) won’t get enough effective rounds into the charging bear to save my butt.
