Do you think there is any way to save the V8s?

Hard to answers this. Maybe if they came up with some kind of cylinder disconnect so they can run on just 4 of the 8 during low loads. Some cars already do this but I haven't seen any 4x4s. Of course this will be expensive and complicated with are both things you do not want on an off roader
