Budget overland vehicle suggestions?

My nephew want to get into overlanding but he is a young bloke so money is an issue. Which European market vehicles do you believe would make a great base for a budget overlander?

I would say a 4 door Suzuki grand vitara is a great option.

I would add the Land Rover discovery 1 here although it can be unreliable. it may be cheap to buy but you will need to set money aside for maintenance
